Entertainment weekly called it "Furry Wonderland." I have to agree with that. I think the Robin Hood-like designs of the characters worked to attract me at least. I was somewhat worried about how similar the character of Mr. Fox and Disney's Robin Hood were, but then I realized that they paid an homage to Disney's Robin Hood with its selection of music, so I let that aside. We do get many films with either anthro characters or animal-centered communities, but I realized the uniqueness of Robin Hood-style characters with the body balance of humans.
I think the creators were excellent at taking the characteristics of stop motion animation and using it for comedic purposes. The awkwardness and still scenes that stop motion created a great portion of the good parts of this film.
The film also had a retro feel to it, thanks to the smaller range of colors, selection of music, and the use of stop-motion itself.
It's not a film for everyone. I think no movie in the world is. But if you like this sort of stuff, it's great to consider it.
